Elaine Paige is a very well known name in the theatre industry and is The First Lady Of Musical Theatre.
Elaine has starred in numerous theatre productions. She first made her West End Debut in 1968 in Hair. Following on from this Elaine had many roles in Musical Theatre Productions including Jesus Christ Superstar And Grease before coming into the public eye in 1978 with her life changing role as Eva Perón in Andrew Lloyd Webber and Sir Tim Rice’s Evita. In her role as Grizabella in Cats in 1981, Elaine made the hit Memory her ‘signature’ song.
It was her role as Florence in Chess that gave her a 4 week run at number 1 in the U.K. Singles Chart with Barbara Dickson singing I Know Him So Well in 1985. (Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth sang this iconic hit with Elaine in an exclusive performance for ITV’s All Star Musicals on 17th March 2019 at The London Palladium.)
In 1995 Elaine starred as Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard and made her Broadway Debut in September 1996.
Elaine was awarded the OBE in 1995 for her contribution to Musical Theatre.
In 2017, Elaine starred in the London Palladium Christmas Pantomime Dick Whittington where she played Queen Rat. In 2018, Elaine won the Great British Pantomime Award for best Female baddie
Elaine has had 22 solo albums, various cast recordings and has featured in many compilation albums.
In 2004 Sunday afternoons changed for the better. BBC Radio 2 gave Elaine her own Radio Show specialising in Musical Theatre from the West End to Broadway with some music from film also included. Elaine Paige On Sunday or nowadays affectionally known by many as EPOS. The show continues to go from strength to strength pulling in record listeners each week.
Elaine works tirelessly in supporting various charities close to her heart. They include Breast Cancer Campaign, The Children’s Trust and The Dan Maskell Tennis Trust.
Fans are now hoping for Elaine to be made Dame Elaine Paige.
